The American Indian Movement works to further recognition of American Indians’ rights granted by treaties. The organization’s membership is composed of American Indians only. It established the Heart of the Earth Survival School, which has an enrollment of about 600 students and offers a wide range of classes for all ages. The organization maintains a historical archive and speakers’ bureau, compiles statistics, conducts research, and provides charitable, educational, and children’s services. It also publishes Survival News quarterly.
